Leland Consulting Group served as part of a multidisciplinary team working on behalf of the City of College Station, Texas, and several major healthcare institutions to accelerate the development of an emerging Medical District, and to use the area as a catalyst to further the City’s other goals for economic development, place making and livability, and regional marketing.
Because of the dramatic role that healthcare and bioscience jobs are expected to play in America’s economy in coming decades, the plan’s goal was to reshape not only the medical providers and their immediate neighbors, but also a trail, park, and open space network; and housing, retail, wellness, recreation, and other land uses throughout the corridor. Leland Consulting Group provided an overarching development strategy, economic and demographic analysis, evaluation of specific development opportunities, and collaboration with major stakeholders to identify a financial, physical and logistical implementation plan.
Since the Medical District Master Plan’s completion in 2012, we are happy to say that the City and project partners have made tremendous strides to implement the recommendations: a new Scott and White Hospital and medical office building will open in August 2013; studies to form two new tax increment reinvestment zones are underway; a new fitness and wellness center will open in 2014; numerous infrastructure improvements are in design; and design is underway for the three-plus mile Lick Creek Greenway Trail.
