Sugar House Streetcar Implementation Moves Forward
The Sugar House Streetcar will be Salt Lake City’s first streetcar line when it opens in late 2013, connecting the vibrant Sugar House district with the regional TRAX light rail line. Leland Consulting Group worked with a consultant team led by Fehr & Peers to evaluate options for a second phase of the streetcar that would extend the initial line through the heart of the Sugar House district, catalyzing redevelopment opportunities and bringing riders closer to major destinations such as Westminster College. Leland Consulting Group’s work focused on evaluating development opportunities along the proposed alignment alternatives in order to determine economic impacts and the potential to catalyze adjacent mixed-use development. In anticipation of the streetcar’s opening, several mixed-use and residential projects are under construction in the area.
