Leland Consulting Group was engaged by Metro Parks Tacoma as part of a multidisciplinary team to create a new master plan and implementation strategy for the Point Defiance “Triangle,” is a 33-acre area that is currently an underutilized transitional zone. The master plan focused on dramatically upgraded multimodal paths and public spaces, improved connections to major nearby uses, developments—such as a lodge, restaurant, and conference center—new gateways, and other improvements that would be implemented by a combination of public and private organizations. The master plan process began in 2011 and was completed in early 2012.
In a related scope of work, Leland Consulting Group conducted a market and financial analysis of the moorage and related operations at the Point Defiance Marina developing recommendations concerning a range of capital improvements, operations practices, and leases.
Leland Consulting Group continues to work with Metro Parks Tacoma to implement recommendations of the master plan. The firm is providing strategic advisory services as the agency seeks grants, conducts major capital improvements, markets the plan internally and externally, and sets the stage for public-private partnership agreements.
